A Design-Build Firm Based in Solana Beach

As two brothers growing up on the shores of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, we learned the intricacies of residential construction and a strong work ethic through our father’s general contracting business. Our summers were spent banging nails and chasing surf. We each received our Bachelor’s degrees in Business and Marketing, and went our separate ways advancing our careers within the industry. Our acquired skillsets and experiences are very different, yet still complimentary. We felt there was a void in the San Diego, California market for a more intimate, personal, and family-focused experience when choosing to remodel your home.

Warmer waters and more consistent swell led us to the West Coast, and Green Room Design Build was founded in June 2018. Green Room Design Build is a place for us to bring together generations of knowledge and experience, alongside the pride and skillsets passed on to us. We provide a custom approach to quality home building at an affordable price point. Through our cutting-edge design services, we allow our clients to dream, visualize, and create their perfect space. We work closely with our clients, architects, designers, and trade partners to bridge the gap in communication, expedite timelines, and exceed expectations.

Our commitment is to create a positive and enriching experience, rooted in passion and integrity well beyond your final inspection. We look forward to collaborating with you on your dream home.

Cheers,
Jake and Josh Laurie

    Jake Laurie

    Owner / head of Production

Jake is the one of the Founders and head of design at Green Room Design Build. With over 25 years of experience, Jake began his career in 1998 working for his father’s remodeling company in Cape Cod, MA, where he developed a lifelong passion for residential design and construction. Before launching Green Room Design Build with his brother Josh in 2018, he served as a senior design consultant for several well-respected firms. As the first and last point of contact for clients, Jake guides them through every step of the process. Jake is one of the pillars of Green Room DB, and, as such, his creative vision and building expertise are represented in every project.

His personalized approach to each design reflects Jake’s uncanny ability to interpret and produce the vision of his clients. Through his experience with many clients, he has learned first-hand the turbulence that can accompany remodeling and has developed systems to ease these stresses. Outside of running Green Room, Jake enjoys surfing, snowboarding, hockey, CrossFit, and most of all, spending time with his wife Kim and their two daughters, Andi and Lucy.

    Josh Laurie

    Owner / head of Production

With more than 25 years of experience in both residential and commercial construction, Josh brings a depth of knowledge and a passion for building to every aspect of the business. He provides clients with a boutique experience by shaping efficient systems, cultivating strong relationships, and ensuring that every detail is thoughtfully executed. Josh thrives on problem-solving and sees every challenge as an opportunity—whether it’s learning about new innovations, refining workflows, or strengthening team collaboration. His focus on continuous improvement has been central to shaping the company’s culture and processes. Having grown up working alongside his brother and co-founder, Jake, Josh always envisioned joining forces again.

Together, they combined their unique experiences and shared vision to create a company built on doing things better—through craftsmanship, service, and a commitment to people. When he’s not leading the team, Josh enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and staying active outdoors. You’ll often find him surfing along the coast, camping in the mountains, or snowboarding during the winter months—always seeking adventure and connection in nature.

    Courtney

    Head of Operations

As Green Room’s very first employee, Courtney has been instrumental in shaping both the company’s growth and its culture from the ground up. With a background in launching small business start-ups across a variety of industries and an upbringing spent keeping pace with her older brothers—she brings a dynamic mix of grit, adaptability, and creativity to the team. Her leadership touches every corner of Green Room, from client relationships and team management to marketing and daily operations, ensuring each remodel runs with both precision and personality that defines Green Room. Outside of work, you’ll likely find Courtney at the beach with Bruce, Green Room’s unofficial mascot (and very fluffy) “security guard,” Bruce.

    Joshua Nichols, RA, NCARB

    Registered Architect

Joshua David “JD” was born and raised in Rochester, NY. After earning his bachelor’s degree from the University at Buffalo, he moved to South Florida to gain hands-on experience with an architectural firm—an opportunity that reinforced his lifelong goal of becoming a Registered Architect. In 2020, JD relocated to San Diego to pursue a graduate degree, ultimately earning his Master of Architecture in 2022 with high distinction. His studies focused on Digital Architecture and Fabrication, Urban Design and Development, and Sustainable Design and Technology, further shaping his innovative and detail-driven approach to design. Outside the office, JD enjoys spending time with his dogs, exploring new places, and participating in architectural design competitions.
